The perplexing behavior Francis describes in this interview might be easier to understand if it is also found in some other context. For example, the relationship between parasite and host.
There is a deep conflict of interest between parasite and host because a parasite lives at the expense of its host. It is therefore never advantageous for the parasite if its host becomes aware of the true nature of its relations with the parasite.
Parasites really do exist in nature and parasitologists have carefully studied their way of life, trying to decipher their "goals" (as it were), the broad strategies parasites follow to attain them, and the ingenious tactics evolved to implement these strategies.
Everything learned in one context can swiftly help explain what is going on in another context that is similar. The purpose of the knowledge gained is to guide future action so that it is effective. You understand something when you can accurately predict how it will behave in a given situation.
In the real world, parasites can indeed castrate hosts, literally gain control over their minds, and sometimes kill the host, but parasites are also subject to many constraints because of their relation of dependency on the host, and are thus highly vulnerable to counterattack.
Of course, the behavior of any human opponent is guided by beliefs that can change, and so alterations in a relationship that make it mutually beneficial or at least less harmful to one party are an achievable goal.
The trouble is I’m not very good at explaining the feeling like you can. Perhaps it’s something that comes with practice.
As soon as I scratched the surface, I got that feeling with Lucy Connolly. Then what started to twist my melons was that people I trust and admire began to take an opposing view, which obviously they’re perfectly entitled to but it didn’t make sense to me. Does the truth feel different to each person? I’d like to think I really examine why I feel those feelings.
Or are the manipulation tactics so good that they know what buttons to press to divide people and distort the ‘truth’.
As we saw in 2020 they have disconnected people from reality to the extent that some people are no longer able to recognise deception and others actively promulgate it.
