The performance of MPs since 2020 has given many people cause to doubt the integrity of Parliament. The first lockdown was ushered through without much discussion or dissent. The second and third lockdowns were voted through with overwhelming majorities. If we consider the possibility that some of the MPs who voted against the lockdowns may have been controlled opposition then that would further highlight the near total unanimity of the political class.
The British public were provided with two prominent parliamentary voices against the lockdown in MPs Charles Walker and Desmond Swayne. Their anti-lockdown views were aligned to those of former Justice of the Supreme court, Jonathan Sumption, and journalist, Peter Hitchens. Having gained the favour of the anti-lockdown contingent they used it to influence people to take the state injections.
On 27th February 2021 Peter Hitchens wrote in the Mail on Sunday that he had capitulated to being injected as a travel requirement, thereby indicating to his readers that he thought such restrictions on movement would be a permanent arrangement and normalising acquiescence.
“I get the strong sense that any sort of travel, and plenty of other things, will be impossible if I don’t have the necessary vaccine certificate.”
On March 4th 2021, Jonathan Sumption came out in favour of a 'vaccine' passport, advocating the threat of social exclusion being used to usher people into compliance. He said “I think that compulsory vaccine is a lot better than compulsory house arrest.” On the same day Sir Desmond Swayne wrote the following coercive words on twitter. “I've just had my jab, make sure you get yours so that we can all get back to normal life.” The usually dapper statesman accompanied the message with a picture of himself apparently receiving the injection wearing a transparent plastic mask, a scruffy t-shirt, splattered jog bottoms and dirty trainers. With downcast eyes he looked more like a hostage than a knight of the realm.
This demoralising sequence of events for the burgeoning freedom movement was part of a novel and unusual trend of politicians openly declaring their medications and drug intake.
Swayne's friend David Cameron was reported as receiving the injection on March 1st 2021 despite being a decade younger, creating a sense of possible preferential treatment and potentially encouraging demand. Former Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Theresa May declared their receipt of the serum on February 20th and 26th 2021 respectively. Chinese style lockdown advocate Jeremy Hunt was photographed taking his shot wearing the casual clothes of the proletariat on March 4th 2021.
Sir Charles Walker was unable to partake in the trend, admitting to Channel 4's Cathy Newman on March 21st 2021, “I'm afraid I'm needle phobic. Anyone who brings a needle near me is met with a raised fist. So I'll have to wait until there's a nasal vaccine. Of course when a nasal vaccine appears I am more than happy to take my shirt off as everyone seems to want to do.”
He was keen to dispel any suggestion of a lack of enthusiasm for the vaccine and added,
“I'm in a difficult position but really excited about vaccines, happy to have a nasal vaccine. I think there'll be a pill vaccine next year. I mean if people think, if they're worried that I'm vaccine phobic I'm more than happy to have any number of Moderna vaccines, Pfizer vaccines, AstraZeneca vaccines, on a brioche or Jaffa Cake. I mean I'll stuff them in my mouth until I'm either sick from vaccine or sick from Jaffa Cake. There's nothing more here than I don't do needles and many people don't do needles.”
These comments followed a peculiar speech about a pint of milk that Walker made on the same day in the House of Commons when he spoke in opposition to a six month extension to the Coronavirus Act. In the chamber he said, “In the remaining days of this lockdown, I am going to allow myself an act of defiance—my own protest, which others may join me in. I am going to protest about the price of milk. I am not sure whether I think the price is too high or too low—I shall come to that decision later—but for the next few days I am going to walk around London with a pint of milk on my person, because that pint will represent my protest.”
Speaking of the pint of milk to Cathy Newman, he explained, “I've projected this sort of symbolism on it. We've had protest virtually made illegal for nearly a year and it's going to continue to be illegal for the next few days and then government can make it illegal at a point of its choosing at any time in the next six months.” To Walker, carrying around a pint of milk was seemingly symbolic of the right to protest about which he added, “You don't need an excuse to have a protest in a free country.” Walker's unusual speech opened his stance up to ridicule in the media and diminished his intended message.
In July 2021 Jonathan Sumption changed his mind about vaccine passports -when the majority of the demographic he was likely to have influenced had taken the injections. Speaking to The BBC Today programme he said,
“I don’t think vaccine passports imposed by the state are a good idea now. Earlier this idea when fewer people had been vaccinated, I thought there was something to be said in allowing those who had been to prove the fact and return to normal life. But at the moment, with 70% having had both jabs, including all vulnerable groups, I think it is completely unnecessary.”
In Lord Sumption's opinion, apparently coercion is acceptable until people have been coerced. He continued,
“The latest statement on nightclubs is a threat that unless they insist on vaccine passports we will force them to do so. The age group affected by nightclubs has a negligible chance of getting seriously ill or dying – if they wish to take the risk then why should they not be allowed to do so? The groups it might affect have all been offered two jabs – they are highly effective against hospitalisations or deaths.”
If we accept the deeply flawed covid narrative, the vast majority of people of all ages had a negligible chance of getting seriously ill or dying from the alleged virus, but even supposing that was not the case, why would the right to make one's own medical choices be reserved for the young or those less at risk? If a vaccination is highly effective why would it be necessary for anyone other than those who wish to take them?
Having stated that coercion was necessary when fewer people were vaccinated Sumption concludes confusedly,
“Getting vaccinated is a choice that one has, I don’t think this should be something we should be compelled to do.”
In 2020 it was reported in the Guardian that NHS bosses planned “to enlist celebrities and ‘influencers’ with big social media followings in a major campaign to persuade people to have a Covid vaccine amid fears of low take-up.” The UK government had already paid social media influencers and reality TV stars to promote the ill-fated NHS test and trace service. In the US, media outlet Judicial Review forced the release of documents that uncovered the Biden Administration's heavily funded and wide-ranging propaganda campaign, to push the covid injections. This plan included engaging sports stars and franchises, social media influencers, screen writers, comedians, podcasts and Christian leaders and media networks.
The UK government spent nearly £1billion on advertising between 2019 and 2022, some of which was spent as SAGE had advised in March 2020, to “use media to increase sense of personal threat.”
On 24th May 2021 the Mail reported a video in which “Sir Lenny Henry, Sir Elton John, Liz Hurley and David Walliams join TV actors Lydia West and Navin Chowdhry to encourage people to come forward and get the lifesaving covid vaccine.”
Specific demographics were targeted. On 30th March 2021, Lenny Henry had also led a video “letter to loved ones” featuring prominent black people that was aimed at encouraging people to take the covid shots. On 28th January 2021 the BBC reported that “Black MPs from across the parties have joined together in a video encouraging people to get the coronavirus vaccine.” On British television and radio there was a parade of coercive doctors, actors, presenters, and talking heads. To what extent were these interventions organic? How would the government seek to influence members of the public that were beyond the reach of social media stars and TV celebrities?
Since 2020, the government is documented to have employed applied psychology and propaganda 'nudge' tactics to influence public behaviour and encourage compliance with its supposed health measures. In this context is it possible that some of the notable anti-lockdown figures acted to influence their supporters into taking the injections? Or were they also unwitting subjects of the unprecedented barrage of propaganda?
